Defendant generally denies DirecTV’s allegations. Defendant asserts the following defenses: bad faith, extortion, defendant is not proper party, defamation, misjoinder of parties, intentional infliction of emotional distress, violations of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, fraud and misrepresentation, violations of the Michigan Consumer Protection Act, violations of the RICO Act, failure to state a claim, statute of limitations, unclean hands, and public policy (plaintiff has duty to assist the FCC and the FBI in combating piracy, its unfair for plaintiff to make extortion demand and then sue all consumers of devices that may potentially be misused), and laches.
